TO4G Week 1 - Orky Milly-Tah-Room

Sand skirts the worn surface of crudely constructed hovels, buffeting the the worn armour or the protectors of this small wasteland of a planet. A large voice shatters the silence, bellowing for the troops to show attention and as soon as the last syllable fades away they comply by striking their boots together and straightening up. A normal sight on most worlds ruled by the Imperirum, but this scene has one glaring difference, under the assortment of helmets and hats lies the brutal glares and green skin traditional to savage Orks...

And so it begins. I'm Ben and I'm currently typing these fine words you are currently reading, I've been collecting Warhammer and W40k for a long time now and have a wide range of armies, from Tau to Imperial Guard but I have always desired to collect an Ork army. The Orks are iconic in their wide range of unique and strange designs all with a makeshift feel and I saw this as an opportunity to stretch my creative muscle.

For my first troop choice I had the wide array of choice: either Ork Boyz or Gretchins, however Orks provide a wide array special options for other unit types. For now I needed some strength, since it was my first choice, and I obviously went for the Ork Boyz, and made sure to get them in a large number as they aren't nearly as tough as some of my superhuman foes. I was able to get 2 full boxes (as opposed to my rivals with only one box each) for £18 each, leaving me £4 left over. I certainly needed the number though!

I created my 20 Orks with Sluggas and Choppas, predicting that I would need to Orks' brute strength to actually damage my foes, prefering not to rely on the measly 2 ballistic skill of my Boyz. I constructed the Boss Nob with a Power Klaw, hoping for an instant kill in the future, and I was able to use some of the spare parts and stands to construct 2 big shoota Boyz and 2 rokkit launcher Boyz so I will be able to pick and choose which special weapons to take against which foe.

Currently all the Boyz are constructed and under-coated, ready for a good paint job. I have the most models out of all the players this month so I have to spend more time painting, but that is certainly something I don't mind at all! Watch this space for more Ork shenanigans
